Roof finial
This roof finial is the only surviving piece of 10 Cambridge Park, Wanstead, a Victorian terraced house demolished in 1994 to make way for the M11 link road. In December 1994 supporters of the Stop the M11 Link campaign occupied the properties condemned for demolition in Leytonstone and Wanstead. The protestors defied eviction and declared the independence of the states of Leytonstonia and Wanstonia. The decoration on the roof finial dates from the anti-road occupation. The protest failed to halt construction of the M11 link road, which finally opened in 1999.
