Printed Ephemera — 1867
Playbill
This ingle column playbill advertises shows at the 'Marylebone Theatre'. London's theatres used playbills to appeal to audiences and inform them about the range of plays. This playbill refers to the 5th December 1867, and includes information about three different dramas being staged: 'Alone in the Pirate's lair', 'Wild Will of the Ferry', 'Sweeny Todd'. Some of the actors appeared in two dramas on the bill, and the entertainment also included a song from Miss Amelia Packer, and a dance performed by Mr Coxhill. Mr Tom Lamb and Mr R.H. Kitchen starred in 'Wild Will of the Ferry', alongside 'the Wonderful Dog Carlo', in the role of 'Neptune, the Dog of the Wave.' The night's entertainment was a benefit for Mr F.J.Clark, who was billed as 'Box and Saloon Kepper, the first there Five Years'. Benefits were used by theatres as a way to supplement theatrical salaries.
