World Cup Willie
A plastic key ring, in the shape of ''World Cup Willie', the official mascot of the 1966 FIFA Football World Cup, which was held in England that year. This was the first time the competition had been associated with a mascot, and Willie set a trend that all subsequent World Cups followed. Mascots were seen as income-generators as well as marketing devices: the Football Association held the copyright to World Cup Willie, and this example is marked "Copyright F.A. 1966". Willie represented the English lion and always wore a Union Jack shirt.
