Printed Ephemera — 1860-1880
I hope to call you mine
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card with applied decoration. The base of the card is of plain paper edged in blue. Applied above this sheet, by means of paper springs or hinges, is a gilded and white lace paper sheet with an embossed design forming a series of borders surrounding a central medallion decorated with an embossed floral design. Above this sheet is applied a coloured paper print of the head and shoulders of a young fisherman framed by a gilded lace paper border. Below is an applied garland of embossed paper leaves shells & a paper cartouche printed 'I hope to call you mine'.
