Printed Ephemera — 1909-02
Photograph
Photograph of a group of suffragettes standing in a street. They carry luggage and flags. Handwritten on the front are the numbers1 and 2, which correspond to two names handwritten on the back ‘1 Miss Emily Davidson (sic) 2 Dora Marsden’.
Emily Wilding Davison and Dora Marsden were both members of the Women’s Social and Political Union and were both imprisoned for their suffragette activities. During the 1913 Derby, Davison ran out onto the racetrack in an attempt to stop the King's horse. She received serious head injuries and died 4 days later. Marsden worked as a WSPU organiser in North-West Lancashire and Southport.
