Printed Ephemera — 1902-1908
Peek Frean Trade Card
This set of adverts or trade cards was distributed by Peek Frean's Biscuit Manufacturers. They refer to the postal delivery of a tin of Peek Frean biscuits.
James Peak and George Hender Frean provided a major source of employment for the communities of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe when they moved their biscuit factory to the area in 1866. Until the factory closure in 1989, Bermondsey was often referred to as 'Biscuit Town'.
Famous Peek Frean biscuits include the Garibaldi, the Chocolate Table (the first chocolate-coated biscuit) and the Bourbon, which was invented two years after this advert was produced.
