Rest in the Lord
This memorial card carries the words 'Rest in the Lord' on the front cover set against a branch with ivy leaves. The card has a silver and black border. Inside, there is a verse from a poem by Lizzie Doten who was an American spiritualist and medium. It begins 'I live! O ye who loved me, your faith was not in vain/Back through the shadowy valley I come to you again'. On the facing page, the words are printed 'In Loving Memory of Samuel John, the beloved husband of Charlotte Cowton, who entered into rest, May 24th, 1902. Aged 63 years'. The body was interred at the Western Cemetery (Hull) on 27 May 1902.
