Map of the Route of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Procession
Fold out souvenir map showing the route of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Procession to St Paul's Cathedral on 22nd June 1897. Printed on card in red, black & yellow the map is printed with the route of the outward procession from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's. Sold for one penny (1d) such maps would be purchased in the weeks leading up to the procession by those planning to travel to London for the procession. On the reverse are printed numerous Jubilee related advertisements. These include an advertisement for WM Robinson & Co's enamelled steel diamond Jubilee tumbler and children's cup and a notice from William Whiteley with details of how to purchase tickets (lunch included) for their corporate grandstand seats along the processional route.
Such souvenirs reflect the growing commercialisation of royal pageantry that was increasing viewed by businesses as a promotional and commercial opportunity.
