Barnes Bridge
An illustration of Barnes Bridge on Boat Race day, 6th April 1870, from 'London: a Pilgrimage' by Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré, 1872. People have climbed along the supports underneath Barnes Bridge in order to get a better view of the race. Other people are sitting or standing in temporary stands which Jerrold describes as 'animated lines of ... rough-hewn stands thrown up as speculations'.
