Working History — C. 1920
Cart, baker's handcart
Buchanans of Radnor Walk, Chelsea, made this handcart. It was used throughout the 1920s and 1930s as a baker's delivery cart. Like milkmen, bakers divided London neighbourhoods into delivery 'rounds' usually local to their bakery premises. They offered a daily doorstep delivery service, bringing cakes and bread straight to the customers' homes.
