Buckingham Gate
A view of Buckingham Gate from 'London: a Pilgrimage' by Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré, 1872. The gateway was built in 1626-1627, possibly by Balthazar Gerbier, for the Duke of Buckingham, and formed an access point to the Thames from the garden of the Duke's house. With the Victorian construction of the Thames Embankment the gate was separated from the river by reclaimed land. It is more commonly referred to as York Water Gate.
