Printed Ephemera — 1940
Careless Talk Costs Lives
This wartime propaganda poster, issued by the Ministry of Information in 1940, was designed to discourage 'Careless Talk'. Multiple images of Hitler surrounding the telephone box suggest the perceived threat to national security during World War II. The government wished to urge caution when talking in public to prevent enemy sympathisers from hearing and passing on sensitive information. The poster is one of a series designed by the cartoonist Fougasse.
