The Duke of Wellington's Funeral
The Duke of Wellington died at his Kent home of Walmer Castle on 14 September 1852. From there he was taken to Chelsea Hospital where he lay in state until his state funeral at St Paul's Cathedral on 18 November 1852. Along the route of the procession to St Paul's Cathedral tickets were sold for the most advantageous vantage points.
This ticket grants admission to the opera colonnade of Her Majesty's Theatre on the day of funeral, 18th November 1852. Costing one guinea, the ticket is numbered 245 and printed on cream card with black border.
