Printed Ephemera — 1989
Britain out of Ireland
This poster advertises a meeting in Mile End between Ken Livingstone MP, the left wing journalist Paul Foot, and the Irish nationalist political party Sinn Fein. From 1989 the British government banned Sinn Fein, the political wing of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), from broadcasting directly on British TV and radio. Some of the bloodiest events of the Troubles occurred during the 1980s, such as the Enniskillen bomb of 1987.
