On the Death of Her Royal Hignefs the Princess Charlotte of Wales
In 1817, Princess Charlotte, the only child of George IV, died five hours after giving birth to a stillborn son. Her tragic death was greatly mourned by the British public. This mourning card entitled 'On the Death of Her Royal Highness the Princess Charlotte of Wales who died Novr 6th 1817' includes a five verse poem and an illustration of a tomb and urn showing a small portrait of the Princess with her distraught husband (Prince Leopold) leaning against the tomb and a weeping willow in the background.
