Printed Ephemera — 1831-1840
Mr G. Bennett as Cataline the Roman Conspirator
Uncoloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with an engraving of the actor Mr G Bennett in the role of Cataline the Roman Conspirator. The sheet is marked 'All the ornaments for this portrait may be had of T.J.Brown the original inventor. A variety of new and elegant patterns are now in preparation.' This implies that Brown also produced metal foil tinsel ornaments. Such portraits would have been sold as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home.
