Printed Ephemera — 1907-1908
Guidebook
Programme for the ceremony to set the first stanchion for the stadium to be constructed at Shepherd's Bush for the London Olympic Games of 1908. The event was held on 31 July, and the programme includes a copy of the opening address delivered by the Chairman, the Duke of Argyll. The stadium contractor, Alexander Findlay, M.P., presented a miniature silver crane to Lord Desborough, Chairman of the British Olympic Association, during the ceremony. The stadium was constructed alongside the Franco-British exhibition showground at White City at short notice when the Games due to be held in Italy in 1906 were switched to London following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that year.
