Private Eye
The front cover of the satirical magazine 'Private Eye', 28 August 1981. It depicts Ken Livingstone, the leader of the the Greater London Council (GLC) defending his support of gay causes. During the early 1980s The GLC funded many gay and lesbian community groups through its Gays Working Party, a permanent part of its Grants subcommittee. Private Eye often satirised the left-wing Livingstone, or ‘Ken Leninspart’ as it called him. This issue contains a spoof story, ‘Red Ken’s more gay coppers shock plea’.
