Printed Ephemera — 1906-1914
Mr. D. Lloyd George
Postcard with photographic image of MP David Lloyd George. Beneath is printed 'Mr. D. Lloyd George.' Lloyd George was a leading figure in the Liberal government of 1905-1915, at a time when women were campaigning intensively for the vote. Although Lloyd George and the Liberal party were generally in favour of granting women the vote, they were concerned that initial measures to do so would mainly enfranchise supporters of their Conservative opponents. In 1913 militant suffragettes destroyed with bombs a new house Lloyd George was having built in Walton Heath, as a protest against the Liberal government’s slow progress in granting votes to women.
