Ken Lo's Memories of China
Menu from Ken Lo's Memories from China restaurant in Pimlico, 1980s. Ken Lo started working in London as a diplomat at the Chinese Embassy when it was run by the Chinese Nationalist Government. His job was effectively abolished in 1951 when the British Government decided to recognise Mao Zedong as leader of a communist China. Lo could not return to his homeland, so together with other ex-Embassy staff he launched a second career in catering. Lo achieved his ambition of becoming a successful cookery writer. He opened Memories of China in 1981, serving upmarket Chinese cuisine.
