Tea caddy
Round brass tea caddy produced as a souvenir of the British Empire Exhibition by Lipton's tea company. Marked 'Lipton's Souvenir British Empire Exhibition 1924' and embossed with the official mark of the exhibition, a stylised lion designed by F.C. Herrick. This was said to represent the qualities found in the British character - honesty, simplicity and strength. Lipton's owned tea plantations in Sri Lanka and East Africa and promoted its goods at the British Empire Exhibition.
