The Home of Arthur du Cros MP, St Leonard's Hastings, Burned down by Suffragettes, April 1913
The home of Arthur du Cros MP, St Leonard's Hastings, burned down by Suffragettes, April 1913. Arthur du Cros was first elected Conservative MP for Hastings in 1908. His opposition to female suffrage made him a target for Suffragette militants who burned down his home on April 13th 1913. The arsonist was most likely Kitty Marion, although she was never charged for the offence and does not refer to it in her unpublished memoirs.
