Bowl
Part of a decorated samian ware bowl, form Dragendorff 37, with ovolo band, made at Les Martres-de-Veyre, Central Gaul by the potter Donnaucus, also known as X-13. Decorated with panel design including figure dancing, and male figure surrounded by stylised trees. The sherd has been heavily burnt, turning the red clay black, perhaps in the Hadrianic fire of AD 120-125. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
