The photograph of the Suffragette Violet Mary Jones taken shortly after her imprisonment in Holloway for militancy. Violet was first arrested in September 1909 at the Palace Theatre in Leicester. Along with a number of other Suffragettes, Violet was attempting to disrupt a meeting being held by Prime Minister Winston Churchill. That year she also served a term of imprisonment for Breach of the Peace. In November 1911 Violet was arrested for malicious destruction of property in London for breaking windows at the offices of the National Bank in the Strand. The museum also has in its collection the hunger strike medal presented to her for her part in the campaign.
