Box, sun-ray lamp goggles box
Cardboard box for folding sun-ray goggles. With details of contents printed in red and blue on a cream background. The goggles came with an electric sunray lamp. They were worn to protect the eyes from the ultraviolet lamplight. During the 1930s exposure to artificial sunlight was believed to be beneficial to those with poor health and growing children. The donor of the lamp recalls being tempted with sweets by her mother to sit in front of the lamp, wearing the protective goggles, for many hours as a child.
