Printed Ephemera — 1967-1968
Black power in Britain
The front cover of this pamphlet depicts a black power salute and a black panther, both symbols associated with the Black American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Stokely Carmichael, a Black activist from the United States, visited London in 1967 to spread his message. The Universal Coloured People's Association (UCPA) was subsequently established to campaign for 'Black Power in Britain'. This manifesto is against the integration of Blacks and Whites, but in favour of uniting Black people worldwide.
