Williams, Gold Button Maker
Copper-engraved billhead with handwritten invoice issued by the gold button making firm of Williams, located at St Martin's Lane. The billhead is engraved with the Royal Coat of Arms in recognition of the firm's appointment as supplier of buttons to the King and the Royal Household. Dated 26th April 1783 the invoice, issued on behalf of William and John Williams refers to an order for gold plated bone buttons.The family firm of Williams specialised in the supply of uniform and livery buttons from the late 18th to the early 19th century.
