Azella, The Graceful Flying Dancer
Leaflet promoting performances by 'Azella, the graceful flying dancer', quoting reviews from her performances in the U.S.A. A reviewer from the San Francisco examiner remarked that "her performance is not a bit like any of the ordinary mechanical effects of the stage, for there is nothing in it to suggest the use of wires or pulleys or anything of the sort." However Azella's "exquisitely graceful movements" were achieved with the help of a specially reinforced 'flying' corset, which had a heavy steel catch held closed by a metal spring to which the suspension wire would be attached.
