Old Houses in Aldersgate Street
Old houses in Aldersgate Street, 1879. This photograph was commissioned by the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London to form part of a permanent visual record of historic buildings threatened with alteration or possible demolition in the 1870s and 1880s. This photograph was taken just before the building, formerly the Half Moon Tavern, was demolished in 1879. Despite the name on the front of the house it had no connection with William Shakespeare.
