The Sun Tavern
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Sun Tavern, in Whitechapel, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3425; Obv inscription: THE.SVNN.TAVERN.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The sun (in field); Rev inscription: WHITE.CHAPPELL.1656 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.R.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Whitechapel lay in Stepney, Middlesex; it is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
