The Three Death's Heads
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued for a business at the sign of the Three Deaths Heads (skulls), in Wapping, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3347; Obv inscription: AT.THE.3.DETHES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three human skulls (in field); Rev inscription: HEDES.IN.WAPING (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = E.M.V. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The sign of Deaths Heads was commonly used by Apothecaries. Middlesex and Uncertain Pieces. Wapping lies in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, having formerly been part of Stepney, Middlesex.
