The Bull
Willliam Stewart issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Black Bull, on the Upper Ground, Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 491; Obv inscription: WILLIAM. STEWART. AT. YE. BLAK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bull (in field); Rev inscription: BVLL.IN.THE.VPER.GROVND (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / W.S (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
