The Red Lion
Thomas Sorell issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Red Lion tavern, in Ratcliffe, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2366; Obv inscription: THO.SORELL.AT.RED (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion rampant (in field); Rev inscription: LYON.TAVERN.IN.RATCLIEF (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
