The Weavers' Arms
George Smith, a weaver, issued this trade token, worth a farthing for his business in Mile End, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1895; Obv inscription: GEORGE.SMITH.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Weavers' arms (in field); Rev inscription: MILEND.WEAVER.1658 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = G.M.S. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).

The arms of the Worshipful Company of Weavers are: Azure on a chevron argent between three leopards' heads each holding in the mouth a shuttle, or three roses gules (J. Mile End lay in Stepney, Middlesex, and is now part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
