Jane Wagstaff issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for her business in the White Hart nieghbourhood, in the parish of St GIles in the Fields, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2508; Obv inscription: IA.WAGSTAF.IN.ST.GILES.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = I.W / 1669 (initial in Roman capitals with date below, in field); Rev inscription: Y.FEILDS.NEAR.Y.WHITE.HART (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HER / DOVBL / TOKEN / FOR A / ½ (in five lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The White Hart was on High Holborn at the end of Drury Lane, see token number 8138 in the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles, 62, The Norweb Collection: Tokens of the British Isles 1575-1750, Part VIII - Middlesex and Uncertain Pieces.
