Crystal Palace Olympic arena
Glass lantern slide showing the Olympic boxing and wrestling arena at Crystal Palace, Sydenham, 1866. The national Olympic Games were organised by Dr William Penny Brookes following the founding of the National Olympic Association in 1865. The 1866 Games featured many of the elements of the modern Olympics, with a programme that included swimming, track and field events, gymnastics, wrestling and boxing.
