The Royal Dinner Menu
A menu for The Royal Dinner held on Tuesday 21 March 1871 at Windsor Castle. Printed on cream card, the menu is written in black ink surounded by a lace paper border embossed with a corner flower design by Meek.
Guests were served ten courses; 'Potages', 'Poissons', 'Releves', 'Contre Flancs', 'Entrees', 'Rots', 'Releves', 'Contre Flancs', 'Entremets' and the 'Buffet'. For the 'Entreess' six options were offered 'Les Boudins a la Pompadour', 'Les Supremes de Volaille aux Truffles', 'Les Ris de Veau glaces a la Macedoine', 'Les Pigeons a la Marechale aux Pois', 'Les Cotelettes de Mouton a la Soubise' and 'Les Salmis de Becasses aux Champignons' and for the entremets another six options were offered 'Les Asperges a la Sauce', 'Les Galantines et Pains de Foies a la Gelee', 'Les Col-au-vents d'Abricots', 'Les Gelees Mosaique', 'Les Nougats d'Amandes' and 'Les Gelees de Fruit'.
