Social History — 1951
1951 Festival of Britain
This jigsaw puzzle was a souvenir of the Festival of Britain, 1951. It depicts a colourful artist's impression of the main Festival site on the South Bank. Cheerful souvenirs such as this were eagerly bought by visitors who were tired of dull wartime utility items. Many souvenirs were made from surplus war scrap such as aircraft aluminium. This puzzle was an official souvenir sold at the South Bank site. It was approved by the Council of Industrial Design, who were responsible for the design content of the exhibition.
