Plaque, gnostic amulet
A small thin sheet of gold, covered with illegible markings on one surface. Likely to be a written curse on incantation (defixio). Curses of this kind were most commonly written on lead and nailed to the wall of a sacred place, or, as in this example, rolled up to be deposited in a wall cavity or placed under floorboards.
