Agnus Dei (Lamb of God)
Devotional badge of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). This openwork badge has a shield-shaped frame with delicate cusping and a beaded edge. In the centre of a badge is a Lamb looking backwards towards a cross-staff bearing a banner with a cross. It holds the staff with one of its front feet, which is held up. The Lamb’s head is surrounded by a cross-nimbus (halo). This was probably not a pilgrim souvenir from a particular shrine but is more likely to have been worn as an aid to devotion.
