Mosaic
A restored square polychrome mosaic with central roundel. In the centre of this mosaic is a Roman wine cup called a 'cantharus'. It is surrounded by a round and a square decorative border. In one corner is a heart-shaped leaf that would have been repeated in each corner of the complete mosaic.
Mosaics were made from small cubes of coloured stone and ceramic which were laid in patterns called 'tesserae' to decorate hard floors.
