Saxon & Medieval — Middle Saxon
Comb
This heavily fragmented comb is made from antler bone. The end of the handle and the start of a few teeth remain. This composite comb is one sided; you can still see three rivets on the handle from where the comb was created. There is also some zig-zag ornament on one end of the side-plate. To make a composite comb, flat 'tooth-plates' would be riveted between two side plates. The flat tooth-plate would then have teeth cut out of it.
