Saxon & Medieval — Late Medieval-Tudor; 15th-16th century
Sheath
Leather dagger sheath with secondary integral sheath for a smaller knife at centre front. The front is decorated with vertical panels formed by impressed lines and divided into areas reflecting the handle and the blade. Some of the panels are plain and others are filled with a small repeating stamp of four pellets. The back is much plainer with two vertical impressed lines and occasional use of the stamped four pellet motif. There is a centre back seam with edge/grain stitch holes. Inside there is the remains of a leather lining. The very tip of the sheath is somewhat damaged probably showing where a metal chape was; there is also damage around the mouth of the sheath.
