Devotional finger ring
A gold finger ring with a ridged bezel decorated with three concave panels engraved with figures of St John the Baptist on the left, the Virgin and Child in the centre and St Catherine on the right; the hoop is spirally wreathed and beaded, the fluting close to the shoulders containing a floral motif with traces of green enamel; inscribed inside in black letter is 'mon cor avez' - ['have my heart'] -For other rings with this inscription see Notes & Querries, 3rd Series, iv. 84; Gentleman's Magazine, CXXI ii. 640 (from St Ann's Well, Nottingham'. There are examples in the British Museum's collection - Franks bequest AF.1009 and AF. 725 see also variant inscriptions listed in Dr Joan Evans 'English Posies and Posy Rings', Oxford, 1931 p 11.
