Decorative arts — 1969-1980
Vase
This hand-blown glass vase was designed by Geoffrey Baxter, the head designer at Whitefriars glassworks from 1954. It is pattern number 9656, in a range introduced in 1960 and which continued to be made until the glassworks closed in 1980. This example dates from 1966 and is in Ruby cased with Flint (colourless) glass..
The design is typical of Baxter’s tasteful, Scandinavian-influenced ranges. During the 1960s Whitefriars glass was stocked in independent design shops and department stores such as Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum and Mason.
