The Wheatsheaf
Matthew Pearce, a meal man (someone who deals in meal crops, such as oats), issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Tooley Street, Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 459; Obv inscription: MATHEW. PEARCE. MEALE. MAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A wheatsheaf M.K.P. (triad of initials in Roman capitals around sign, in field); Rev inscription: ST.OLIVES.SOVTHWARK (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
