The Turk's Head Coffee House
Ralph Wilkes, a coffee man, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Turk's Head, in Spitalfields, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2937; Obv inscription: RALPH.WILKES.COFFEE.MAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.R.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: IN.SPITTLEFEILDS.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of a Turk holding a coffee cup (in field).
