The Shoe
Joseph Wilson, a chandler, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in St Martin le Grand, in Aldersgate Ward, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2663; Obv inscription: IOS.WILSON.CHANDLER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A shoe I.M.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals around sign, in field); Rev inscription: IN.MARTINS.LEGRAND (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / 1669 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
