The Man in the Moon
This trade token, worth a farthing was issued by a tallow chandler, for his business at the sign of the Man in the Moon, in Old Bailey, ward of Farringdon Without, City of London.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2122; Obv inscription: MAN.IN.THE.MOON.IN.OLD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man within a crescent moon (in field); Rev inscription: BAILY.TAL.CHANDLER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.W below a string of candles (initials in Roman capitals, in field).
