A Great Hall at Holloway Women's Prison, 1909. This image was one of several depicting areas of the prison published in the Illustrated London News on August 7th 1909 under the heading 'The Scene of the Suffragettes Martyrdom in Holloway Prison'. This particular image was captioned 'One of the three Great Halls, each of which holds 300 prisoners, a corridor of cells from the first landing'. The imprisonment of so many Suffragettes resulted in considerable press and public interest in the conditions within Holloway prison.
